PIANO

LESSONS FOR CHILDREN

  • My aim is to make lessons fun! Playing the piano has had such a positive impact on my life and I hope to share this enthusiasm with others. It’s a wonderful skill to have that can provide happiness and enjoyments throughout your life.

  • I will cover a broad range of musical activities to give a good introduction to lots of different ways of making music so that they have a good grounding for any musical avenues they might want to explore in the future.

  • Children will learn to play songs from a range of genres, read music, listen and develop their hearing skills, play duets to get used to playing with other people (as preparation for playing in bands or orchestras in the future), start learning about music theory with games and exercises and, most importantly, enjoy themselves.

  • Could work towards graded exams or the ABRSM prep test, but that’s completely optional. Some people work well with a goal or deadline to motivate them, but I’ll never pressure anyone to take an exam that they’re not ready for or don’t want to do.

  • I can advise on what tuition books to buy or I can use any books that you already own if I think they’re appropriate.

  • I teach from my home (postcode B29 7QQ) or can travel within a 2/3-mile radius.

  • I have been fully DBS checked to work with children. Parents are always welcome to sit in and watch lessons with their child.

  • If you have any questions or would like to book a lesson please feel free to contact me.

LESSONS FOR ADULTS

  • Lessons will be fully tailored to your needs.

  • We can work on whatever you’re interested in. Whether you have a specific goal in mind (like being able to play your favourite song), would like to generally improve your skills, or just think learning the piano would be fun to try.

  • Any level of experience is welcome, whether you used to play when you were younger or are a complete beginner.

  • There will be no pressure to take exams, unless you’d like to.

  • I can teach from my home (postcode B29 7QQ) or travel within a 2/3-mile radius.

ABOUT ME

I attended the prestigious Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where I achieved a first class BMus (Hons) degree. While studying I took every opportunity to learn more about teaching, including participating in several voluntary teaching projects and completing modules in pedagogy and further pedagogy.

I have 10 years of teaching experience and have worked with adults and children of all ages and abilities. As well as teaching privately I have taught at the Birmingham Music School, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and Broadway Academy.

I have a wide range of performance experience across different genres and settings. I have been a member of many orchestras and wind bands, including the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales. I have also played with big bands, contemporary music groups and a ska band. I have performed at concert halls, gigged in pubs, accompanied choirs in churches and had music I composed performed by professional ensembles.
